New To Medicare?

You’re 65 and you know you need to enroll in a Medicare insurance plan… that sounds easy enough, right?  Just like any other product you purchase whether it’s a kitchen appliance or a new car, you do your research to learn the pros and cons.  Knowing the right Medicare insurance plan to purchase is no different.

Where to start?

There is basic knowledge of Medicare that you should know and if you prefer to have someone guide you through the process, I am here to help.  Call and we can either schedule a one-on-one appointment or discuss over the phone.

If you prefer learning on your own, hopefully you’ll find our website an excellent place to start, or to further your Medicare knowledge.

Who is eligible for Medicare?

  • Anyone age 65 and older
  • Anyone under age 65 – who has collected 24 months of Social Security Disability Income
  • Anyone with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), permanent kidney failure
  • Anyone with Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS)

What is Medicare (sometimes referred to as Original or Traditional Medicare)?

It is our federal government’s hospital and medical insurance program for U.S. citizens, funded by taxes that both you and your employer have paid into during your working years.  It’s the deduction withheld from your paycheck named FICA (Federal Insurance Contribution Act).

Medicare has Four Parts

  • Part A - Is hospital insurance (inpatient hospital, skilled nursing, hospice, some home health)
  • Part B - Is medical insurance (physicians, outpatient services, x-rays, labs, medical equipment)
  • Part C - Is another name for Medicare Advantage Plans.  It is an alternative way to receive your healthcare coverage offered by private insurance companies that are under contract and regulated by Medicare, or CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services).
  • Part D - Is prescription drug coverage often included in many Advantage Plans or offered as a stand-alone prescript drug plan (PDP). They are offered by private insurance companies that are under contract and regulated by Medicare, or CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services)
